How the rebate works
You get a check after closing. The average is $2,300.
When you buy or sell a home with a Homes for Heroes affiliate real estate specialist, Homes for Heroes sends you a Hero Rewards check after closing. It isn’t a discount you have to negotiate and it isn’t a coupon — it’s a check, and it does not need to be paid back.
$2,300
is the average Hero Rewards check a hero receives after closing on a home. And it scales with the price of the home — $700 back for every $100,000 of purchase price. On a $450,000 home, that’s $3,150 back in your pocket.
| Purchase price | Your Hero Rewards check |
|---|---|
| $250,000 | $1,750 |
| $350,000 | $2,450 |
| $450,000 | $3,150 |
| $600,000 | $4,200 |
| $750,000 | $5,250 |

Stacking the savings
The check is the biggest piece. It isn’t the only piece.
You don’t have to use every specialist — but each one you do use adds to the total.
Heroes who buy and sell with Homes for Heroes save an average of $6,000. And if you also qualify for a federal, state, county or local first-time buyer program, down payment assistance or grant, those stack on top — we’ll help you get to them.
Getting Your Check
Four steps, in this order.
There are only two real requirements: you’re one of our heroes, and you’re represented at closing by a Homes for Heroes real estate specialist. That’s it. No red tape, no hidden fees, no catch.
Tell us you’re a hero
Reach out through the form below or call. Tell us which hero group you’re in and where you’re looking — we’ll confirm you qualify.
Get enrolled first
You must be enrolled with Homes for Heroes before you’re represented at closing. We handle the enrollment with you up front so nothing is left to chance.
Buy or sell with us
Same brokerage, same service, same Chicagoland market knowledge — we just also happen to be your Homes for Heroes affiliate real estate specialist.
Get your check
After closing, Homes for Heroes sends you a Hero Rewards check. Deposit it and spend it on whatever the new place needs.
Timing Matters!
The savings require that you’re enrolled with Homes for Heroes and represented at closing by a Homes for Heroes real estate specialist. If you’ve already signed with another agent, the rebate is off the table. Talk to us before you tour a single house.
Why us
Plenty of agents can hand you a rebate. Fewer have spent fifteen years working with heroes.
Dorazio Real Estate is veteran-owned and operated, and serving heroes isn’t something we added for this program — it’s already where we put our emphasis. Veterans and active military, and police, fire, healthcare and education right alongside them.
That means we know which benefits and programs attach to which group, and how to line them up with a Hero Rewards check instead of tripping over it. Homes for Heroes adds money back on top of the way we already work.
Common questions we hear from our heroes
Straight answers.
Is this a discount on the house, or actual money?
Actual money. The largest portion of the savings is awarded after closing, based on the purchase price, and it’s given back to you as a check to deposit or cash. Like a grant, it does not need to be paid back.
What are the requirements?
Two things. One, you are serving or have served as one of the five hero groups. Two, you work with and close on your home or mortgage with a Homes for Heroes local specialist. That’s it — no red tape, no hidden fees, no catch.
Do I have to use all of your specialists?
No. But each specialist you work with adds to your savings amount, so most heroes use as many as they can to maximize their Hero Rewards.
What if I’m already working with another agent?
You must be enrolled with Homes for Heroes and represented at closing by a Homes for Heroes real estate specialist to be eligible for the home price savings. If you’re currently represented by another agent or loan officer and they’d like to learn how they could help you save, they can contact Homes for Heroes directly.
Does this include down payment assistance or closing costs?
Homes for Heroes does not provide down payment money. Some of the savings can help with closing costs — lender fees and title service fees are reduced at closing. The largest portion, the purchase-price-based check, arrives after closing.
Separately, our mortgage specialists can check whether you qualify for federal, state or local down payment assistance programs. Those savings would be in addition to Hero Rewards.
What does my credit need to be?
Our mortgage specialists follow all federal and local lending guidelines and can give you the most accurate guidance on your ability to obtain financing. Get in touch and we’ll connect you.
Is Homes for Heroes a charity?
No — Homes for Heroes, Inc. is a for-profit, cause-related company, established in 2002 shortly after the 9/11 attacks and national since 2009. It funds a separate charitable nonprofit, the Homes for Heroes Foundation, which awards grants to organizations helping heroes in need.
What if I’m not ready to buy yet?
That’s fine, and it’s still worth a conversation. We can talk through preparation and the steps to take before you begin — and get you enrolled early so the rebate is locked in when you are ready.
Let’s find out what your service is worth.
Fill out the form below and tell us which hero group you’re in. We’ll confirm you qualify, get you enrolled with Homes for Heroes before anything else happens, and go find you a house.
